Hondius: Ship Details and Overview

Photo of Hondius

The m/v Hondius is the first-registered Polar Class 6 civilian ship in the world. Class 6 actually surpasses the requirements set down by the Polar Code adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This makes it the safest vessel for polar cruising on earth.

Using bio-degradable paints and lubricants, LED lighting, steam heating and a state-of-the-art power management system that significantly reduces fuel consumption and CO2 levels, the Hondius is one of the most environmentally friendly cruise ships available. For people who suffer from seasickness, the ship is also equipped with advanced stabilisers to counter motion.

Not too big, and not too small, the Hondius can take up to 176 passengers and you can choose cabins from balcony suites to quad rooms. Having only been built in 2019, the vessel has a nice modern and clean feel to it. There is a lovely observation lounge for wildlife watching, fully equipped presentation theatre, library, and a well-stocked bar.

The Hondius has a very informal and cozy feel to it. It has plenty of deck space and two separate indoor zodiac embarkation platforms. Definitely one of the best new options on the market.
