Sylvia Earle: Ship Details and Overview
Named in honour of marine biologist, oceanographer and explorer, the Sylvia Earle is due to sail in late 2021 and boasts the latest in Polar cruise technology.
Like its sister ship - the Greg Mortimer - the Sylvia Earle is one of the smallest Polar expedition ships and carries a maximum of 120. This means that not only will everyone will get plenty of time ashore, but the ship will be able to navigate smaller bays and passages when exploring. The hull is ice-strengthened and the Sylvia Earle is an impressive Class 1A for Polar sailing.
With her new patented X-Bow®, the Sylvia Earle moves through the water with far less energy. This reduces fuel and makes the ship one of the most environmentally friendly on the market. The Sylvia Earle also utilises a virtual anchoring for protection of the sea floor.
The patented X-Bow® makes the sailing experiencing smoother as the pointed front end of the ship cuts through water more smoothly than traditional ship designs. For anyone who suffers from seasickness, the Sylvia Earle is a good choice.
The Sylvia Earle has been specifically built for expedition travel and comes with custom-built hydraulic platforms that move in an out to provide clear views of the surrounding sea and wildlife.
There is a large observation lounge on deck and, on deck's 5 and 6, there is also a glass atrium lounge. The Sylvia Earle is also one of the few ships to come with a heated salt water pool on deck, and also a gym, Jacuzzi, sauna and spa.
